In honour of the occasion, a first idea of how to spend a Sunday in London. More suggestions will follow before the next Sunday comes around the corner.
Blackheath & Greenwich – Blackheath is a beautiful village in southeast London, only a 20 minutes train ride away from Charing Cross. Jude Law grew up in the area and allegedly the Gallagher brothers used to hang out in the local pubs before their break through (what seems hard to believe, considering the peacefulness of the Village). Despite its small size it is possible to spend whole afternoons in Blackheath. Though, I usually start with a visit to the farmer’s market right next to the station (great Focaccia!), then go over to one of the charming coffee shops on Tranquil Vale or Montpellier Vale and later walk up to All Saints’ Church, cross the green up to Shooters Hill Rd. and through Greenwich Park all the way down to Greenwich. Unlike Blackheath, Greenwich is well known to most people. Either because it is giving its name to the Greenwich Mean Time, because of the National Maritime Museum, its repeated reference in Joseph Conrad’s books “The Secret Agent” or “Heart of Darkness” or the entertainment district The O2. There are several reasons for Greenwich being worth a visit. My reason is, except from the local shops and bars, (surprise) Greenwich Market – open Wednesday to Sunday.
